Increasing attention has been given to what can best described as an election deemed by seasoned political pollsters as too close to call. We will examine possible scenarios for America’s first-ever “snap election” between a victory for Kamala D. Harris or Donald J. Trump where international voting is expected to play a pivotal role in the outcome.
There is a third less examined scenario, one of significant disorder caused by a contested outcome leading to the potential for political violence, institutional disruption and outstanding questions regarding Europe’s resilience faced with any increased instability.
Against the backdrop of the rise of the radical right in Europe and ongoing conflict in Ukraine and Gaza, we will examine the impact for a NATO under new leadership, EU-US trade relations, European institutions, the Trade & Tech Council, AI, the Transatlantic relationship, the productivity gap and competition law and potential legal implications.
